Exercises to strengthen the connection between the right and left hemispheres

The figure eight can be made in many different ways. You can make large figure eights in the air or you can draw a figure eight on a piece of paper or in a book. Start in the middle of the figure eight and move upwards. Follow with your eyes. After seven times, repeat with the other hand. Then finish with both hands at the same time. You can talk about things that are difficult while drawing the figure eight, or write in the figure eight and say aloud things you want to remember.

The clutch is another exercise that can be done sitting or standing. Put your right foot in front of and over your left foot. Stretch your arms out and cross them in front of you, turn your palms towards each other and clasp your hands, then bring your hands inwards towards your body so that they are at your heart. Close your eyes and focus your attention on yourself, thinking about something that makes you feel good. Sit or stand like this for a while.

Walking, jumping or dancing, to music or without, strengthens the connection between the right and left hemispheres. All types of cross walking strengthen the connection:

– Let the elbow meet the opposite knee either by lifting the knee or by bending the upper body.

– Have your hand meet the opposite foot behind your body or lie on your back and have your right hand or arm touch your left knee as you lift, and alternate.

Cross your arms in front of your body and grasp your left ear with your right hand and your right ear with your left hand. Cross your arms alternately so that either your right or left arm is closest to your chest and try to clap your hands on your knees between the alternations.
