Family therapy
The challenge of family therapy is to give the children space in the therapy room. Therefore, therapy needs to use more languages than the spoken one. Images, drama, imagination and play help many, both children and adults, to lead the therapeutic process deeper in the exploration of what has been and what can be. The therapist needs to create a play space for the whole body and all parts of the brain. This presupposes that there is a sense of security in the room that can lead to joy – both of which are important prerequisites for change. The book describes family therapy work and family therapy themes, while also providing the reader with suggestions for interventions, activities and homework assignments that are suitable for all ages. The author encourages integrative psychotherapy, and provides an overview of therapeutic models that can be used both with individuals and with families. Family therapy is aimed at people who are training to become family therapists, but also at already working professionals. It is also aimed at those who have already been trained in individual therapy as well as social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists who work or want to work more with families. “This book is something as unusual as a book about family therapy written from a Swedish perspective. It gives children a place in Swedish family therapy that has previously been lacking.” Björn Holmberg, social worker, licensed psychotherapist with a focus on family, psychotherapy supervisor/educator. “Family Therapy by Ulrika Ernvik has an important subtitle – An exploratory and co-creative game. That describes well the tone of the book. Such a book has been missing for a long time in Swedish.” Magnus Ringborg, licensed psychologist, licensed psychotherapist, supervisor and educator in family therapy. “I can’t think of a better textbook for stretching one’s therapeutic field of work to family therapy.” Lasse Övling, licensed psychologist, certified Gestalt therapist, SE-Trauma Practitioner and Radio psychologist in P1.
